Title: Intelligent Tutoring Systems: History and State-of-the-art

Since the 70's it is believed that software may be used as a tool to facilitate teaching and learning. Different learning and teaching theories have been used to generate software products that teach
students of all ages, across various domains. Specifically, Intelligent Tutoring Systems use Artificial Intelligence techniques to produce effective and efficient educational software, by personalizing instruction to each individual student. This talk will summarize the history of tutoring systems since their conception, current different areas of study within the field, and future directions. In general, I will sinthesize the research questions and contributions of an International Community of Artificial Intelligence in Education that collaborates and combines efforts to conceive, design, develop and
analyze the effectiveness of adaptive interactive learning environments.
