ABSTRACT

A modern enterprise has typically many different running systems to support its operations. The common set up is the consequence of tactical responses to the problems, rather than a strategic, concerted approach to a comprehensive IT solution for the organisation. However, with distributed computing it is possible to provide a framework for new and legacy applications to co-exist, support business-to-business communication, and provide the necessary channel services for the enterprise to interact with outside agents.
This tutorial presents an architectural approach to enterprise systems, both from the required software and technology points of view. Real-life, implemented case studies are included in the discussion.
